Ermita de Espinar
Aguada
Located in the Espinar barrio of Aguada, the Ermita de Espinar is one of the most important historic sites in Aguada. Its ruins, built around 1525, preserve nearly 500 years of history and are now part of the Parroquia Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepción de los Protomártires, which is why many people know it as "the church within the church."
In addition to being the first temple founded by Franciscan friars in Puerto Rico, this space also housed the Island's first school and first library, making it a key place for understanding the beginnings of religious and educational history on the Island.
