ASSMCA administrator Carmen Bonet Vázquez said the workshop, which is free and open to the general public, aims to give people tools and strategies to reduce anxiety and achieve emotional balance during hurricane season, which has already entered its peak period.
"As an island in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico faces hurricane season every year from June 1 through Nov. 30, bringing uncertainty and fear about the development and impact these storms can have on the lives and property of our communities, and even reviving trauma from past events such as Irma and María," said the ASSMCA administrator.
"For this reason, we invite the public to this virtual workshop, or webinar, which aims to help each person identify and understand their emotions, face mental health challenges before, during and after weather emergencies, and, equally important, acquire tools to manage stress and anxiety effectively. It's about having an emotional management plan, just as we have a family emergency plan," Bonet Vázquez added.
The event also seeks to promote solidarity and community organization to face weather-related challenges in a balanced way.
