El Calabazas Fest returns to Dorado with more fall experiences

Ilé Rosario Martínez

Fall season has officially arrived in Puerto Rico. From October 5 through November 3, Finca Pastoreo in Dorado becomes the home of the second edition of Calabazas Puerto Rico Fest, a family event that recreates the fall experience in the style of a pumpkin patch.

Following the success of 2024, the festival returns with new attractions, photo spots, creative activities and, of course, its well-known pumpkin spice ice cream.

Experiences and Main Attractions

Highlights include:

  • Pumpkin display: More than 50 varieties of natural pumpkins in different sizes, colors and shapes make for a visual spectacle celebrating the diversity of this fall fruit.

  • Giant hay tower: The tower has become the go-to spot for family photos, alongside an ornamental pumpkin house that adds a whimsical touch to the experience.

  • Creative painting workshop: Visitors can take part in a pumpkin-painting workshop that includes all materials and lets children and adults decorate their own small pumpkin.

  • Interactive farm: A dedicated animal area allows close encounters with goats, rabbits, pigs and more, creating special moments for younger visitors.

  • The well-known pumpkin spice ice cream: This dessert, served inside a real pumpkin, has become the star of the festival and a popular stop for visitors.

📆 The event takes place outdoors. Light clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended for comfort during your visit.

A Fall Experience Without a Plane Ticket

"The idea comes from being able to have that fall experience right here in Puerto Rico, so we don't have to travel to enjoy it," says Jamie Ortiz, owner of Calabazas Puerto Rico and creator of the festival.

Ortiz explains that, in addition to the pumpkins and activities, they offer their own ice cream with a pumpkin spice twist.

"We want it to be a very family-oriented experience, where you can come take your photos, make your memories and enjoy yourself without having to leave the Island," Ortiz adds.

🌳 The Venue: Finca Pastoreo

Finca Pastoreo was founded with the goal of moving families toward more conscious and healthful eating. Its focus is on producing food ethically, with an emphasis on quality and nutritional value.

At the farm, animals are raised free on green pasture year-round, taking advantage of Puerto Rico's tropical climate. This allows them to offer fresh, high-quality meats and eggs directly to consumers.

Additional activities at the farm:

  • Farm tours: Every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to get a close look at their farming and ranching practices

  • Artisan pizzeria: Fresh flavors made with local ingredients

  • Gelato shop: With special pumpkin flavors during October

  • Selection of craft beers: To round out your dining experience
